Will You Need Travel Insurance?

Most people book a vacation thinking that it will be a relaxing getaway. This isn’t always the case - you can end up paying incredibly overpriced medical bills or lose a significant amount of money if you lose your wallet.

1. Travel Insurance

Insurance makes sure that if you do encounter an unexpected circumstance you will be reimbursed. If you don’t have travel insurance, your trip might even be cancelled. Insurance can even be useful if you don’t end up traveling due to illness. Instead of losing a lot of money you will get a full refund for your tickets. Even though it feels like a lot to pay added on top of your trip expenses, it will give you great peace of mind knowing that your trip can be cancelled last minute and you will be fully reimbursed. It’s impossible to control all aspects of your life, and you never know what might happen to prevent you from going on your trip.

2. Traveling Abroad

9 times out of 10, any and all insurance that you currently have is not going to be applicable when you travel internationally. You won’t be covered on your medical expenses, in an emergency, or other dangerous situations. With the proper travel insurance you can rest assured that you will get the treatment you need if you get into things as small as a car accident or as large as a natural disaster when traveling abroad.

3. Terrorism

Terrorism isn’t limited to the US, it occurs around the globe. If a terrorist act suddenly breaks out in an area that you have booked a flight to, the airline is not required to provide you with a refund if you choose not to travel to the area because of terrorism - that is, unless you have travel insurance. These events are completely random and can’t be predicted, so it’s better to have insurance and be safe than sorry. Even if you don’t get hurt at a local cafe by someone blowing themselves to pieces, your flight can be cancelled at any time and it would be very good if you could get your money back.

4. Lost Luggage

One of the most common problems when traveling is lost luggage. You might pile thousands of dollars of goods onto a flight, especially if you are moving to a new country. Travel insurance will surely be a good investment. Travel insurance acts to insure whatever items are lost or stolen so you are able to replace your belongings.

Factors You Need To Be Aware Of If Your Teen Wants To Become A Fashion Model

If you are the parent of a somewhat attractive and fashion conscious teen you may find that they desire to be a fashion model. Even though most people think of girls as models, boys are employed in the field as well. I worked as a male model when I was in my teens so I have first hand experience. The thing you need to ask your self as a parent is should you allow them to be models.

There are many factors that come into play and must be considered when you are deciding whether or not to allow your teen to participate as a fashion model. One of the factors to consider is whether they would be modeling locally or working out of town or even abroad. In most situations I would have no problem with my teen working locally, this is what I did. Traveling and working with adults in environments that they may not be emotionally mature enough to handle is another story.

Another consideration is how your teen came up with the idea. If they just want to be a model you may not have anything to worry about anyway, modeling agencies are very picky about who they use. On the other hand if a local agency or a department store has actually asked your teen if they would be interested in modeling then you may want to sit up and take notice. This means that they may have a look that the agencies and stores are looking for and they could actually get work as a model. Even so, it will take a lot of work and ambition from your teen to actually make it as a model.

Still another consideration is what kind of fashions that your teen would be wearing while modeling. Depending upon the age of your teen there are some styles that you would not want them in. For example, many of the clothing styles today for teens are very sexy, revealing, and seductive. Do you really want your 13 year old modeling clothing like that? You also have to consider that there are pedophiles that could be watching the fashion shows which could set your teen up to being exposed to a dangerous stalker or child predator.

If you decide that you are okay with your teen taking a stab at modeling it is far easier for you to control the situation if you target local fashion shows and the shows put on by local department stores. This way you can maintain some control over the people that they come in contact with. Just be careful and do a little research, especially if you are using a modeling agency. Some agencies are just scams that take your money and never get you work.

In the Greek Island of Corfu Ipsos is Located

In the Greek island of Corfu, Ipsos is situated. It is a short nine mile north west from Corfu town and Corfu airport. The main road runs through the shopping and disco strip, lining the inland side whilst the clear water and clean beach occupy the opposite side. The beach stretches along the roadside and gently curves round at the harbour end. It is set against the dramatic backdrop of the hills.

It is a very lively resort with discos and bars. It tends to attract young people due to its reputation. Groups of friends and teenagers enjoy it here. Also the resort is starting to cater for families with teenage children. Many couples enjoy Ipsos as it is a resort with plenty of life, but the edges are the quieter parts, such as the harbour end and the village behind the main road.

The bars are something that Ipsos is not short of. Everything ranging from quieter cocktail bars and traditional Greek bars to the more lively music bars with wide screen TV playing the latest films and sports all day. One feature that some holidaymakers may enjoy is the numerous English bars.

The beaches are mixed shingle with patches of sand. Many use the beach to nurse hangovers from the night before. It is a big water sports resort and there are two large purpose built jetties that cater for this. One is at the far left side of the beach and the other is at the middle. Water skiing, ringo, banana rides and parasailing is available at both of these jetties. Boat rental is available at the harbour end of the beach.

There are many supermarkets in Ipsos itself and larger ones can be found just outside the town towards Corfu town. Food shopping tends to be slightly cheaper here than in the North East towns and villages further along.

A cash machine can be located in the centre of the line of shops and also there are many places to change travellers cheques and foreign currency throughout the resort.

There is a small play area in the village behind the main road, also there are childrens pools in some of the public pool bars. Just behind the main road there is a go-cart track. Many of the bars have pool tables and games machines.

At various points throughout Ipsos there are public telephones that require a card, these can be purchased at the shops and supermarkets near by. Also there are Post boxes near these.

How is your turkey?

If you hate the memory of dry turkey from the old days, buy a
fresh-killed (meaning, never frozen) turkey. They truly are juicier,
tenderer, and tastier than frozen birds.

Turkeys range in weight from the 6- to 8-pound category to as
large as 26 pounds. Very small and super-big are not better.
Small ones get blotchy. Big ones present food safety problems
because their mass resists total heat penetration. Best to go
with a basic 12- to 16-pound turkey.

First for trussing: The point of tying string around a turkey is to make the bird into a round (no protrusions, no wings sticking out).
This prevents burning of exposed areas. Twist the wing tips, which
will burn first, under themselves, using some force. Now run a strand
of string under the turkey’s girth and up each side, catching the
wing tips under the string. Continue the string over to the drumsticks,
catching them and the fatty tail flap (Pope’s Nose), and tie tightly.

Second for turkey lifter: This major help comes in two styles. One resembles an L-shaped metal prong. The prong goes right up the turkey’scavity while a handle remains in your hand. All you do it lift. If you’ve stuffed the turkey, get the type that looks like snow chains, lies
under the bird, and acts like a sling. Either device ends burned
hands, greasy potholders and lost drumsticks.

You should remember that an instant-read thermometer is your most important tool. With this, you don’t need a roasting chart or a clock. Read the fact on the dial. There will be no question about the internal temperature of your meat.

Could a Steamboat Cruise be the Best Cruise Deal Ever?

For an unusual and distinctly American cruise experience, paddlewheel cruises can offer you a chance to see a different and slower side of the United States.

The paddlewheeler may sound as American as apple pie and it certainly conjures up thoughts of Mississippi gamblers, dance hall girls, and the American frontier. However, paddlewheel ships actually originated in China and can be found all over the world. Americans in the 19th century took the ancient concept of using a paddlewheel and made two improvements: they moved the wheel to the stern or back of the ship (ancient Chinese vessels had the wheel in the front) and they powered these new vessels with the steam engine.

You can book a paddlewheel cruise from a few different lines. Some of them also feature old-fashioned furnishings and a staff in period costumes. You may also be treated to some themed events during your cruise.

Paddleboats cruised the Mississippi in the 19th century, but most of these ships were working vessels. They carried merchandise as well as passengers up and down the river. Some of the best known ports on the route include St. Louis and Memphis, but the Mississippi runs as far north as Minneapolis and as far south as New Orleans, where it empties into the Gulf of Mexico.

Accommodations on these modern versions of paddlewheel cruises tend to go back to the style of the day when travel was more leisurely but also a bit grander. Expect stately touches on the ship and modern amenities along with antique furnishings. One does not grab a bite on a steamboat; it’s more typical to dine. While paddlewheelers today do accommodate our modern preference for the casual lifestyle, this is about as far from the “barefoot” cruise as you can get.

In their day, the American steamboats frequently offered gambling, entertainment that for its day was considered racy, and music from a calliope. A calliope is a very loud, steam-operated instrument most frequently associated with the circus. You’ll find them on some steamboat cruises today, along with lots of music in the evenings (the type depends a lot on the cruise you take).

Before the Civil War, many Southern plantations along the Mississippi were deliberately built on the river so that they could send their crops more easily to market. Cruising by paddlewheeler allows you to see some of these antebellum mansions the way they were meant to be viewed by a party approaching on the river.

Even many Southern cities on the Mississippi were built to be visited not by land but by waterway. The grand dame of all river cities in the United States remains New Orleans. Katrina notwithstanding, New Orleans is back. You can visit the French Quarter (which abuts the Mississippi River) and at least one major cruise line is using New Orleans again as a port.

Probably the best known line for this type of cruise vacation is Majestic America, which offers Mississippi River and other paddlewheel cruises (http://www.majesticamericaline.com).

Paddlewheels also are frequently used on shorter day trips. Brunch cruises, short sightseeing cruises, or even day-long cruises can be found all over the country (including in Orlando, a landlocked city). While this can be a great way to sample the experience of a steamboat trip without committing to a cruise, it’s not going to be as true a steamboat experience as a multi-day journey on the river.

While the steamboat may seem old-fashioned or even clumsy, their small size and design actually makes them far more maneuverable than larger vessels. Captains typically have a bit more latitude in setting their course and itinerary, meaning that depending on the time of year and the river conditions, the captain may be able to travel to slightly different areas to get the best views of wildlife or other sites of interest.

Don’t expect to find lots of passengers; a steamboat cruise will take only a few dozen to possibly a few hundred passengers on any one trip. This means that passengers on a steamboat cruise will get to know each other, interact with each other, and actually rediscover the pastime of conversation. While you won’t find as many activities on a steamboat as on a large cruise ship (there won’t be a miniature golf course, ice-skating rink, or rock wall), you will find more opportunities to get to know other people.

Since steamboats have always been known for their music, you can usually expect lots of rollicking evening entertainment, from jazz cruises on the Mississippi to other dance bands in the North. Steamboats may be nostalgic and stately but they aren’t quiet, especially at night.

And while the Mississippi River cruise has to be the quintessential steamboat experience, you’ll also find river cruises that go as far north as Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Washington state and even Alaska. The Alaskan cruises, in particular, boast that they can access ports and areas that are off-limits to the larger cruise ships.

Whether you’re looking for a red-white-and-blue cruise experience or just as slightly different spin on the traditional cruise vacation, a paddlewheel cruise in the U.S.A. offers a wonderful vacation experience.

The Truth About An African Safari In Mexico

An African safari in Mexico may not quite live up to the expectations of actually being in the wilds of Africa and experiencing the real thing but for those in North America, it certainly is a good alternative especially if you’re on a budget.

Puebla is host to one of the most popular animal parks in Northern America and plays host to thousands of visitors a year. The African safari area is one of the more popular sections and has designated areas named after some of Africa’s popular destinations.

Animals In The Wild

Animals are not restricted in cages yet while they appear to roam free within the park’s boundaries, there is still an element of danger for those visitors who travel through in their vehicles. Like many free range parks, leaving vehicle windows down is an invitation for trouble. Watchful tour guides patrol the park but even they cannot keep an eye on everyone.

There is an alternative to driving your own vehicle through the park and that’s taking the park bus which makes regular trips. It’s definitely a safer option given you’re guided by experienced tour operators

Outside Of Puebla

An African safari in Mexico doesn’t mean restricting yourself to the Puebla park. Puebla has several attractions and day trips are very popular. One of the more recommended day trips is from Puebla to Cholula. While Cholula is a long way from Africa one of the similarities it has with the African continent is the pyramids.

One of the biggest tips for newcomers to Mexico is to be careful about renting cars. It takes people a little getting used to the Mexican driving landscape. Some of the restrictions are a little hard to come to terms with and if you’re even slightly irritable, then give it a miss until you are completely comfortable with the driving regulations in Mexico. Yes, people from outside of Mexico do hire cars however, you’ll find they have usually had a taste of this landscape before and are familiar with the driving conditions.

Meanwhile, if going on African safari in Mexico was your main mission, make sure you have plenty of film in your camera. While Puebla is a popular tourist destination, towns such as Cholula, Tlaxcala and Cuernavaca provide plenty of camera fodder.

Is it safe to travel to these areas? This is a question easily answered by simply staying on the main thoroughfares and not deviating from recommended paths. Don’t go into an area if it looks like a potential trouble spot.

Barbie Party 8 year old

My daughter was turning 8 years old, and decided that she wanted a Barbie birthday. Instead of doing the traditional pink and lavender Barbie birthday we took a different approach. We decided to have an I Can Be” Barbie birthday. Barbie has a line of dolls that are about the different jobs/careers you can have when you grow up. My idea was to have the girls come dressed up as a job they’d like to be when they grow up. The invitations were homemade. I bought blank cards and decorated them with ink ribbon and cute Barbie stickers. On the inside they said “Macy is turning 8 isn’t that great?! Barbie is the theme and it’s all about what “I Can Be”. I also included a letter to the mom’s with more detailed information…especially asking them to have their daughter come dressed up as something they are interested in being when they grow up (for those who didn’t come dressed up I had a tub of dress up clothes for them to dress up in when they got here). We had everything from a nurse to a dancer show up (my daughter was a teacher). For the decorations I didn’t use any premade Barbie decorations. I took my daughters Barbies and set them up around the house “doing jobs” (baby doctor office worker dog trainer etc.). I also had a couple of Barbie posters hanging up. For plates cups balloons streamers etc. I used solid colors of pink orange yellow and lime green to coordinate with melamine Barbie plates I found. I had the plates set up on all the tables. The girls used them like charger plates (putting their paper plates on top of them). They took them home at the end of the party. (I purchased them at the Dollar Tree).
For activities I had the girls try out a couple different jobs. The first was a jewelry maker. We made backpack decorations. I had premade key rings w/jewelry cording attached. I had lots of beads to chose from and I had also prebagged the letters to thier names for the decoration. The girls enjoyed this a lot. They also got to try thier hand at cake decorating. I made individual little heart shaped cakes for the girls to decorate. I had three different colors of frosting in piping bags plus a lot of different sprinkles. I had premade little flags made out of toothpicks and stickers with the girls name on it. As they finished thier cake we stuck their flag in it. When they were all done we sang happy birthday to my daughter and then ate our creations. They really loved doing this. I also did a matching game. On a piece of paper I made a list of jobs in a column on one side of the paper and then in another column on the other side of the paper I had job descriptions. The girls had to match up the correct job to the correct description. I did about 15 different jobs I recommend doing only 5-10. They liked it but it was a bit overwhelming. For food I did finger foods so that I could have it all prepared before everyone came. Things like little sandwiches cressent wrapped little winnies fruit kabobs and a couple different salads (mostly for the moms).
For the favors I purchased bright colored canvas bags (Oriental Trading Co.). We stamped their names on them and decorated them with fringe. Inside we put a matching cup and bowl to the plates I used on the tables homemade glitter soaps in the shapes of hears and flowers homemade pony tail holders (tied ribbon on elastic bands) homemade pens with fake gerber daisy flowers attached w/floral tape a plastic zip bag with Barbie on it that had some ponytail holders in it (99 cent store) and a few other Barbie things like magnets and barettes. For the thank you’s we gave each girl a thank you note w/a picture of all the girls together at the party plus a homemade Barbie sucker (made out of candy melts you can buy at Michael’s and a “Barbie” mold I found on ebay). All in all it was a very fun and different party. It’s always nice when you can remind your child that they can be anything they want to be. :-)
